LANGFORD – Langford Area hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start the game to set the tone for a girls’ basketball win Monday night.

The Lions nailed seven 3-pointers in all on the way to a 42-18 victory over Aberdeen Christian in the opening round of the Region 1B Tournament. It marked Langford’s second win over the Knights in the past week.

Alex Darling led the three-point assault by nailing six of the long-range shots, including three in the opening period when the Lions built a 16-4 cushion.

Darling added nine more points in the second quarter, and capped off her evening with eight points in the third stanza, finishing with a game-high 26 points.

No other player for either side managed more than five points in the contest.

Christian outscored the Lions 9-8 in the second half.

“They finally came alive defensively and the offense flowed better in the second half,” said Christian coach Andre Cobbs. “The same issue we have had all season, press and fast breaks really hurt us. They are a really good shooting team and play really physical.”

Jolie Fogarty scored five points to lead Christian, while Sophia Eichler contributed six rebounds, and Ari Johnson added five blocked shots.

“Sophia Eichler and Eritrea Cobbs were bright spots with some steals and good ball movement,” Coach Cobbs said, “but we really have to work on our team play. I liked what some of the younger ones did with their minutes and I can’t wait to see how they progress in the offseason.”

Langford Area, 9-12, heads into the quarterfinal round tonight with a game at second-seeded Warner.
