MILLER – Aberdeen Christian produced its highest scoring output of the season Friday night, but came up empty in the final four minutes of a tight game.

Sunshine Bible Academy pulled away from a three-point lead to grab a 47-36 non-conference girls’ basketball win over the Knights.

Christian trailed 39-36 with 4:12 remaining following a foul-line jumper by Lucy Jones. However, the Crusaders then finished off the game by scoring eight unanswered points for the final margin of difference. Included in the closing run was six free throws by SBA.

The Knights were hampered by foul trouble throughout the contest and lost three players to fouls, most notably Sophia Eichler who left the game with 3:55 remaining after leading Christian with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Jolie Fogarty, who came off the bench, played a key role for the Knights, finishing with eight points and eight rebounds.

After falling behind 14-7 early in the second quarter, Christian clawed its way into the lead at halftime 20-19, following four straight points from Eichler.

The third quarter remained tight before the Crusaders went on a mini-run to take a 35-30 lead in the fourth quarter. Christian outscored the hosts 6-4 in the opening half of the final period, setting the stage for SBA’s closing surge.

Ciera Mickelson and Tessa Hinman each scored 13 points for Sunshine Bible, Breanna Thieman followed with 10, and Abby Hinman added eight. Mickelson also hauled down 11 rebounds, while Hinman grabbed 10.

Christian, 0-12 on the season, hosts North Central as part of a girls-boys doubleheader on Tuesday at the Aberdeen Civic Arena.
