MITCHELL – Fourth-rated Mitchell outscored Aberdeen Central 15-5 in the final period to rally for a 42-33 Eastern South Dakota Conference girls’ basketball win, sending the Golden Eagles to their sixth straight loss Tuesday night.

“I was proud of our girls’ ability to fight through some adversity and have an awesome first three quarters,” said Central coach Paiton Burckhard.

The Eagles overcame a six-point halftime deficit to take a 28-27 lead in the fourth quarter. However, Central managed just five points in the last eight minutes of the contest.

Lauryn Burckhard scored 12 points and Taryn Hermansen added 11 for Central, which is now 7-7 on the season.

“This month is going to go by fast,” said Coach Burckhard, “so we need to win and do our best the rest of the regular season.”

Central plays host to another ESD foe Huron on Thursday at Golden Eagles Arena.

“Going to be a feisty, hard-working team,” Burckhard said. “Excited to see us and them battle on Thursday. It will feel good to be at home as well. Quick turnaround and we are back at it.”
