TULARE – A string of 20 unanswered points carried Hitchcock-Tulare past Aberdeen Christian Monday night.

The Patriots trailed 11-10 early in the second quarter before a 20-0 surge fueled a 45-20 non-conference girls’ basketball win over the Knights.

Katelyn Schroeder nailed a 3-pointer to start the pivotal run with 7:08 remaining in the second period and Cambree Hoekman hit a 3-pointer to cap the surge with 5:18 left in the third quarter. Six different Patriots scored during that stretch and the Knights never recovered.

Schroeder finished with 12 points and Hoekman had 11. Rebecca Huizenga and Emmerie Arthurs contributed eight apiece.

Christian, which hit its first three shots to start the game on the way to a 10-4 lead, was led by Sophia Eichler and Ari Johnson with six points each. Jolie Fogarty added four points and team-leading eight rebounds.

“The first group is really coming into their own, but foul trouble has been an issue,” said Christian coach Andre Cobbs. “When two or three of that group has to come out for a while, that’s when we get into trouble like the run they had tonight.”

Cobbs said the team’s passing and quality of shots continues to improve.

“I think they moved the ball better tonight, and our shot selection continues to improve,” Cobbs said. “As they start to play more as a group and get to know each other, they better they perform.”

The Knights, 0-18, have two games remaining to cap off the regular season. They will host Langford Area tonight at the Christian School Gym, before taking on Herreid-Selby Area on Friday at the Christian School Gym.
