RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Roncalli got its tennis season underway with five matches during the West River Invitational in Rapid City Thursday and Friday.

The Cavaliers defeated Rapid City Central 7-2 and were swept by Rapid City Stevens 9-0 on Thursday, before defeating Spearfish 9-0, and falling to St. Thomas More 8-1, and Rapid City Christian 9-0 on Friday.

Gannon May, Ezra Feickert, Ben Goebel, Caleb Stoks, and Liam Voehl each collected a pair of singles wins among the five duals. Each of those players as well as Will Haskell also won a pair of doubles matches during the invitational.

Haskell had a pair of close matches, winning in a super tiebreaker and also dropping a match in a tiebreak. He and Gannon May also dropped tiebreaker decision at top flight doubles against St. Thomas More.

Seventh-grader Liam Voehl was also involved in a pair of close matches, pulling out a 10-8 super breaker win against Spearfish at sixth flight singles, and teaming with Ben Goebel for a tight two-set victory at third flight doubles.

The Cavaliers are now off until playing in the Sioux Falls Christian Quadrangular on Tuesday, April 8.
