There is one more hurdle to clear for Class B girls’ basketball teams before reaching the state tournament next week in Huron with SoDak 16 games this evening.

Here is a capsule look at each game involving area teams:

Warner (16-6) vs. Bennett County (20-2), 6:30 p.m. Fort Pierre

This could be an interesting matchup between Bennett County’s offense and Warner’s defense.

Bennett County has scored more than 60 points 11 times, including a season-high 106 points in one game. The Monarchs have held teams to 45 points or less 15 times.

The Warriors have lost just two games, one by two points to SoDak 16 entrant Lyman, and the other to Class A power Dakota Valley.

Warner enters the contest on a seven-game winning streak and have players who are used to the big stage, having played in state volleyball championship matches.

Faulkton (15-7) vs. Centerville (22-0), 7:15 p.m. Madison

Centerville appears to be a strong favorite in this matchup.

The defending State B champion Tornadoes have stormed through an unbeaten season. Centerville had just three games decided by less than 10 points, its closest call coming in a three-point win over last year’s State A champion Vermillion.

Faulkton closed the season with 9 wins in its past 11 games, the two setbacks coming to SoDak 16 participants Warner and Miller. The Trojans pulled off an upset in the semifinals of the regions and will look to make the most of their chance tonight.

Highmore-Harrold (16-6) vs. Parkston (18-4), 6 p.m. Corn Palace

While the records indicate this could be a close contest, a closer look at the regular-season results shows that Parkston will likely be favored in this one.

The two teams played a common opponent in Miller. Parkston won that contest by 31 points, while Highmore-Harrold lost to the Rustlers by 20.

Of Parkston’s four setbacks this year, two came to Class A SoDak 16 squads and the other pair against teams who were rated in the top five in the polls this season.

Highmore-Harrold started the season strong, but the Pirates stumbled a bit down the stretch, going just 5-4 in their last nine games.

Northwestern (17-5) vs. Dell Rapids St. Mary (16-6), 5:30 p.m. Watertown

While these two teams have near identical records, Dell Rapids St. Mary played a demanding schedule that included the likes of defending State B champion Centerville, Class A power Hamlin, and a win over a top-five Class B rated team in Ethan in the region semifinals.

Northwestern lost to just a pair of Class B schools this season, one of them being Faulkton a SoDak 16 qualifier. The Wildcats lost in the round of SoDak 16 last season and will be highly motivated to change that this time around.
