A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of March 30-April 5, 2025:

Last year on March 29-30, 2024: March 29-30: The Minnesota State men’s and women’s basketball teams concluded magical seasons by each winning the NCAA DII national championships. Spearfish native and Mavericks’ coach Emilee (Gusso) Thiesse and her women from Mankato finished 32-5 while coach Matt
Margenthaler’s men finished 35-2. The last and only other school to win DII basketball national titles in the same year were the Central Missouri State University Mules and Jennies in 1984.

10 years ago on March 30, 2015: Aberdeen bowler Ken Schuh, 64, has rolled at least one perfect game in the last five decades, rolling a total of eight in 2014, 2003, 2002, 2002, 1996, 1985, 1980 and 1974.

20 years ago on April 2, 2005: Rapid City bowler David Piker, 23, has rolled four 300 games in the past two weeks. Three of them came within seven days of each other. He has 32 perfect games in his career.

30 years ago on April 2, 1995: Timi Bloomberg held off her sister and defending three-time champ Gari Jo Syverson to win the women’s masters title at the state eight-ball pool tourney. The Rapid City sisters were also inducted into the South Dakota Pool Players Hall of Fame. Their father Gary and mother Jeanne (1941-1994) Bloomberg are also members of the hall.

40 years ago on April 1, 1985: Dave Gellerman had two hits, including a triple, as Augustana defeated Luther College (MN) 12-11. It ended a 35-game losing streak for the Vikings.

50 years ago on April 5, 1975: Former NSU basketball player Gary Nygaard won the Montana racquetball state championship.
