The Northeast Conference has five players who have gained all-state recognition on teams announced by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association today.

The NEC list includes two-first team members (Krista Langager of Sisseton and Addie Neuendorf of Hamlin), a second-team selection (Addie Steffensen of Hamlin), and two honorable mention picks (Ava Hanson of Aberdeen Roncalli, and Isabella Anderson of Milbank).

Here is a capsule look at each of the 11 area players on the all-state honor units:

CLASS A

First Team

Krista Langager, Sisseton. “Proud of every accomplishment that Krista has achieved this season,” said Sisseton coach Sara Lincoln. “We were able to witness all the hard work and determination that she had put in to get to this point. It is truly an honor to see all the hard work pay off first-hand.”

Addison Neuendorf, Hamlin. “Addie is the ultimate point guard. She makes great decisions with the ball in her hands,” said Hamlin coach Tim Koisti. “She can push the pace to start a fast break, or she can slow us down and get us into a set. She scores in clutch moments and knows how to get her teammates easy looks.”

Second Team

Addie Steffensen, Hamlin. “Addie is a great scorer and is so tough to defend,” said Hamlin coach Tim Koisti. “She can knock down outside shots and take her defender off the dribble. She is also a great rebounder and tough defender.”

Third Team

Blake Thompson, Mobridge-Pollock. “She had a great season and was a huge part of the success our team saw this season,” said Mobridge-Pollock coach Stephen Hettick. “I am very proud and happy for her, and excited to see her continue to grow.

Honorable Mention

Ava Hanson, Aberdeen Roncalli. “Ava has put in a tremendous amount of time since she started playing at the varsity level as an 8th grader. She has a work ethic outside of practice like I have never seen before,” said Roncalli coach Derek Larson. “Ava is third all-time in scoring at Roncalli and one of only six to surpass 1,000 points in her career here.”

Milbank’s Isabella Anderson, right, looks to move the ball around Aberdeen Roncalli’s Maddie Huber, left, during game earlier this season at the Roncalli High School gym. Photo by John Davis taken 2/6/2025

Isabella Anderson, Milbank. “Isabella has been one of the most dedicated players I have ever coached,” said Milbank coach Brian Pauli of the 1,000-point scorer. “She has put a lot of time into basketball. She is a six-year starter for the Bulldogs. Led us in scoring in each of the last two years.”

CLASS AA

Second Team

Aberdeen Central’s Lauryn Burckhard, center, drives to the basket as Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Brooklyn Rose, left and Emma Adams, right, close in on defense during a game this past season at the Golden Eagles Arena. Photo by John Davis taken 2/25/2025

Lauryn Burckhard, Aberdeen Central. “Lauryn had a phenomenal sophomore season,” said Central coach Paiton Burckhard. “She was presented with some tough defensive matchups, guarding some of the best in the state. She is a great asset to our team and continuously showed up every day and competed hard.”

Honorable Mention

Taryn Hermansen, Aberdeen Central. “Taryn is a strong force in the post,” said Central coach Paiton Burckhard. “She handles a lot of pressure in the post which creates openings on the perimeter. She fights through adversity and does it well.”

CLASS B

Third Team

Wilmot’s Addison Heinje, center, puts up a shot as Aberdeen Christian’s Alicia Davis, left, closes out on defense and Molleigh Hofer, far right, looks on during a game this past season at the Aberdeen Christian School gym. Photo by John Davis taken 1/30/2025

Addison Heinje, Wilmot. “Addison Heinje is a guard who drives to the basket or steps back and shoots from outside. She is a solid all-around player with length and quickness,” said Wilmot coach Shelly Ammann. “She is going to be exciting to watch the next couple of years as she matures and refines her skills. She is well on her way to 2,000 points as a sophomore.”

Sully Buttes’ Payge Bakker, center, looks for a teammate as she wrestles on the floor to keep the ball from Aberdeen Roncalli’s Camryn Bain, left, during game last season at the Roncalli High School gym. Photo by John Davis taken 1/8/2024

Payge Bakker, Sully Buttes. “Payge is a dedicated and athletic player who consistently gives her all. Her skills as a forward-post player are remarkable, showcasing her talent, and hard work,” said Sully Buttes coach Susie Rilling. “Payge demonstrates exceptional focus, determination, and strong sense of teamwork. She has the qualities of a true leader.”

Honorable Mention

North Central’s Amree Vander Vorst, right, passes the ball as Great Plains Lutheran’s Katherine Prahl, left, closes in on defense during a game last season at Trinity Lutheran School. Photo by John Davis taken 2/13/2024

Amree Vander Vorst, North Central. “Amree’s success this season is a direct result of her dedication and hard work, both in and out of season. She studies the game, watches film, and has developed into a versatile player on both offense and defense,” said North Central coach Kaci Vander Vorst. “Even under tight defensive pressure, she remains a pure shooter who can create and capitalize on scoring opportunities.”
