Groton edges Miller in extra innings

MILLER – Groton scored four two-out runs in the top of the eighth inning to outlast Miller 10-6 in high school baseball Monday night.

Back-to-back walks set the stage for the big uprising. Nick Groeblinghoff and Jarrett Erdmann each drove in runs with singles, and after another walk loaded the bases, Kellen Antonsen was hit by a pitch to produce another run, before Lincoln Krause drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the fourth run in the frame.

Miller jumped on top 3-1 in the second inning thanks to a two-run double by Tate Bray, and an RBI hit from Branden Flowers.

Groton then scored five unanswered runs over three innings. Brevin Fliehs had an inside the park home run in the third, two runs scored on an error in the fourth, and Antonsen had an RBI single in the fifth.

Miller scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Kellan Hurd’s triple, to tie the score setting the stage for the eighth inning.

Fliehs, Erdmann, and Antonsen each had two hits to lead Groton. Groeblinghoff and Antonsen each drove in a pair.

Hurd had three hits to top Miller, while Bray plated two.
