TEA – After winning their first game against Tea Area during a four-game weekend series on Saturday, the Aberdeen Smittys won another contest, before dropping two others on Sunday.

The Aberdeen Smittys blanked Rapid City Stevens 6-0, before falling to RCS 12-1, and dropping a 6-4 setback to Tea Area.

“Overall, the boys played great this weekend,” said Aberdeen coach Nathan Gonnelly. “Michael Dutenhoffer and Jaxon Ladner pitched a combined shutout against Rapid City Stevens.”

Joe Cogley had three hits in the victory and knocked in a pair of runs.

Stevens set the tone in the rematch with 11 runs in the first three innings. Jehiel Aviles had a pair of hits for the Smittys in that contest.

Aberdeen led Tea Area 4-3 in the final game of the weekend before the hosts rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Karson Borge led the Smittys with a two-run single in the third inning.

Aberdeen was originally scheduled to play two games each day, but rain forced the movement of a game to Sunday, meaning the Smittys played three times in one day.

“Overall, just one of those weekends where not only are you playing good teams, but you’re also battling the elements, you’re battling that long schedule of three games on Sunday, you’re battling the hotel, the long drives, everything,” Gonnelly said. “But at the end of the day, that’s the kind of thing that will set us apart from other teams around the state.”

The Smittys will head to Watertown for a doubleheader on Tuesday night.

“We saved a couple guys as much as we could for Tuesday,” Gonnelly said, “and I’m more than confident in their ability to get the job done against Watertown, so I look forward to that and can’t wait to see how they perform.”
