Central plays close matches at Fargo tourney

FARGO, N.D. – The Aberdeen Central volleyball team had three tight matches during the opening day of the Scheel’s Tournament on Friday.

The Golden Eagles fell to Fargo Davies, 25-20, 25-20, defeated Mandan 26-28, 25-23, 15-12, and got bumped by Bismarck St. Mary’s 18-25, 25-19, 15-13.

“We played pretty well,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel. “We went 1-2 against some good teams.”

Grace Kuch had 17 kills in the win over Mandan and 14 kills in the match against St. Mary’s. Abby Berry recorded 31 set assists against Mandan. Sydney Evans led the back row with

“We definitely had close sets. Everyone that went on the court contributed and did their job,” Bindenagel said. “Our net play continues to improve and our defense kept a lot of great rallies going.”

The Eagles will be the third seed in Silver Bracket when play resumes today. Central has matches scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
