Last year on Feb. 11, 2021: Coach Rocky Burkett and his Northern State wrestlers ended their undefeated dual season with a 26-6 win over the University of Mary to earn the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship. It was only the program’s third such title (2002 and 1986). Getting wins for the Wolves on this night were Michael Bigler, Dayne Morton, Kolton Roth, Wyatt Turnquist, Caden Moore, James Burks, Marcus Placide and Treyton Cacek.

10 years ago on Feb. 12, 2012: Tucker Iwerks of the Aberdeen Swim Club broke a 33-year-old state record in the 100-yard butterfly for ages 13-14 by covering the distance in 54.65 seconds. Mark Lewis of the Sioux Falls Snowfox set the record of 54.91 seconds in March 1979.

20 years ago on Feb. 12, 2002: The NSIC wrestling coaches voted NSU coach Patrick Timm as their coach of year after he led the Wolves to a conference championship.

30 years ago on Feb. 7, 1992: Sam Pitzl scored 23 and Bill Nelson added 16 points and 11 rebounds to pace Veblen past Henry 63-61. Clay Bastian led Henry with 26 points and 23 rebounds.

40 years ago on Feb. 7, 1982: Elaine Ehresman not only won the singles’ division of the Aberdeen Women’s Bowling Tournament, but her team won the title as well. Her Moose Lodge No. 2 teammates were Evonne Gilborne, Betty Wilcox and Penny Walker.

50 years ago on Feb. 12, 1972: Britton held off Eureka 58-52 behind 18 points from Dan Yelkin and 15 from Jim Lemke. Eureka got 13 points from Steve Fuchs.
