Christian connects from perimeter in win over Lions

LANGFORD – Aberdeen Christian, known for its inside attack, nailed a season-best eight three-pointers on the way to a 61-25 Lake Region Conference girls’ basketball victory Tuesday night.

The third-rated Knights received treys from five different players, but were still led by 6-foot-4 center Mallory Miller who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Aberdeen Christian, now 17-2 on the season, poured in 40 points in the opening half to break the game open with a 24-point lead at intermission.

“It was nice to see the way our girls moved the ball,” said Christian coach Michael Rohrbach. “We hit a season high eight threes whch was great to see as we get ready for Roncalli and the playoffs, as we’ll need to open things up inside.”

Joy Rohrbach added 15 points to the Christian total including three three-pointers. Other Knights to connect from behind the three-point line included Miller, Chloe Holt, Kaylee Block and Sophie Bosma.

Megan Gustafson tossed in nine points, all on three point field goals, to lead the Lions.

“I’m really proud of the effort our girls gave and the way they’ve come together here at the end of the season,” Coach Rohrbach said.

Next up is a battle against top-rated Roncalli, 18-1 on the season. That contest takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aberdeen Civic Arena. The boys’ game will follow.

The encounter is one the Knights have been eying for a long time.

“We’ve had Roncalli circled since the beginning of the season and are excited for the challenge,” Coach Rohrbach said. “They’re really good and we know we have our work cut out, but I believe in our girls and know what we’re capable of. Hopefully, we can give them a run on Thursday.”
