Smittys drop pair in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – The Aberdeen Smittys had a tough time getting their offense going in a pair of setbacks to Fargo Post 400 in American Legion baseball action on Saturday.

The hosts won the first game 11-1 and took the nightcap 2-1. The Smittys managed just three hits total in the twinbill.

Hayden Kressin and Jake Jaroszewski each had three hits for Fargo in the opener. The Smittys scored first when Phillip Zens walked, advanced to third on a Josh Steinwandt double, and then scored on Brian Holmstrom’s sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. However, Post 400 then scored in every frame but one on the way to the victory.

Aberdeen received a solid pitching performance from Casey Vining in the second game. He allowed just three hits and one earned run in going to the distance. Fargo scored on a fielder’s choice in the second and on an error in the third.

The Smittys loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but could only manage one run, that coming when Jaiden Smith scored on a wild pitch.

Aberdeen will be back in Fargo today when they face Fargo Davies.
