Aberdeen Central’s Sam Rohlfs has been named a South Dakota High School Track and Field Coaches Association All-American.

The South Dakota State University recruit set the all-time state record in the long jump this past season, becoming the first high school jumper to surpass 24 feet. He won both the Class AA long jump and triple jump at the state meet this past spring.

Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens was also selected an All-American. The junior recently became the first South Dakota prep athlete to run a mile in less than four minutes.

Honorable mention in the boys’ division went to Julian Watson of Brandon Valley, and Jaden Guthmiller of Spearfish.

Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth and Berkeley Engelland of Mount Vernon-Plankinton earned All-American honors in the girls’ division. Leiseth, who will be a senior this upcoming season, won the Class A discus event at the state meet with a mark that was the best in the nation at 52 feet, 6 3/4-inches.

Luke Vander Leest of Sioux Falls Christian was the Circle of Champions Coach of the Year.
