HAYTI – Aberdeen Roncalli dropped the first two sets, battled back to even the match and eventually fell in the fifth to Hamlin in Northeast Conference volleyball action Tuesday night. The unbeaten Chargers prevailed 25-14, 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 15-5.

“After a little bit of a slow start, I was proud of the way the girls persisted and got themselves into a rhythm in sets three and four,” said Roncalli coach Mandy Smid.

The Cavaliers were able to slow down a potent Hamlin attack by putting up a strong block at the net.

“They reset the tempo,” Smid said of her players. “On a strong attack, our front row was able to slow down a lot of balls.”

However, the Chargers were able to alter their strategy and regain the momentum in the fifth set to move to 5-0 on the season.

“Set five was a battle,” Smid said. “Their tips were too much to cover after a fight back in sets three and four.”

Ally Abrahamson had 26 kills to lead Hamlin. Kami Wadsworth finished with 46 set assists and recorded in her 1,000th career assist during the contest.

Ella Hanson had nine kills for the Cavaliers. Maddie Huber led the squad with three aces and a dozen set assists. Camryn Bain collected 43 digs.

Roncalli, which had its three-match win streak snapped, is 3-4 on the season. The Cavaliers host Webster Thursday night at Roncalli Gym.
