GROTON – In one of its last regular-season meets of the season, the Aberdeen Roncalli cross country programs had a bit of fun Monday.
The Cavaliers had a choose-your-own-race day at the Steve Grode Invitational at Olive Grove Golf Course in Groton.
“I let the team choose their race (distance) since we ran Wednesday and Saturday last week,” said Roncalli coach Brady Lesnar. “I thought the team ran spirited for all the course work they’ve had in the last six days.”
Roncalli’s Addison Cassidy and Garrett Griffin each chose the longest distance possible, running the 5K distance. Cassidy was fifth in the girls’ race, while Griffin was fifth in the boys’ race.
Paul Gutenkauf and Paige Schmidt chose the 3K distance, and both won their respective divisions.
“Today was a good day,” Lesnar said.
Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State won the boys’ race while Madison Zirbel of Waubay-Summit won the girls’ race. Frederick swept the team titles.
Roncalli will have one final regular season race, heading to Sisseton on Thursday.
