MITCHELL – The Aberdeen Central girls’ soccer team recorded its fourth consecutive shutout and clinched a share of the Eastern South Dakota Conference championship in the process Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles blanked Mitchell 2-0 and grabbed a share of the ESD title with Brandon Valley.
Central scored a goal in each half and received solid goaltending from Ciara Frank in the win.
“I thought we played OK. It wasn’t our best performance,” said Central coach Merle Aske. “Mitchell kept players behind the ball and prevented us from getting in behind their back line. We didn’t keep our width, so it was hard to get in around the edges.”
Makylie Miller scored in the 18th minute on an assist from Deshani Peters to give the Eagles a lead they never lost.
Central clung to that one-goal advantage until Peters added an insurance goal in the 75th minute to ice the victory.
“It was a close game, but I thought we controlled the midfield,” Aske said. “But we didn’t keep our possession going enough and gave up too many transition opportunities.”
Frank was up to the task, stopping all 13 shots she faced in goal.
“Ciara Frank had several good saves diving, and one pushing the ball over the top,” Aske said.
The Eagles head into the post season with a 10-1-1 record. Central will host a contest Tuesday at Brownell Activities Complex.
“Now we begin preparations for the playoffs and wait and see who we will host Tuesday,” Aske said.
Pairings will be announced following Thursday’s games.
