FAULKTON – Aberdeen Roncalli jumped in front early, but then faced an uphill climb the rest of the way in a setback to Faulkton Monday night.

The Trojans rallied for a 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15 non-conference volleyball victory.

“We came out strong and set the tone early,” said Roncalli coach Mandy Smid. “We played very aggressively and stuck together.”

However, Faulkton turned the momentum to start the second set. The host squad took a big lead before the Cavaliers rallied to tie score, but fell short at the finish.

“In set two we showed our fight as we rallied back from being down by 10 to tie it up,” Smid said.

The Trojans then won the pivotal third set to take control and before finishing off the win in the fourth.

Addison Melius had 15 kills to lead a balanced Faulkton attack. Carley Cotton followed with 10 and Kelli Stoecker added nine. Cotton also had 33 digs. The Trojans improved to 18-10 on the season.

Ella Hanson led Roncalli with 10 kills, two aces and 23 digs. Jaidyn Feickert contributed six kills.

Camryn Bain finished with 46 digs.

“Definitely a career high for Camryn on a night that was definitely challenging from the back row,” Smid said.

Roncalli, 13-8 on the year, is right back in action this evening, hosting Milbank Area in a Northeast Conference match at Roncalli Gym.
