HURON – The Aberdeen Cougars scored four goals in every period Friday night on the way to a 12-1 boys’ hockey victory over the Huron All-Stars.
Aberdeen set the tone when Austin Erickson scored just 26 seconds in the game. Micah Kranzler and Jacob Scheel then scored goals about a minute apart to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage just over four minutes after the opening puck drop.
Scheel led Aberdeen’s scoring assault with four goals and also had an assist. Lleyton Kleffman contributed three goals and an assist. Devon Fischbach added two goals and two assists.
Jadon Jones also scored and added two assists for the Cougars, who finished with 46 shots on goal. Kranzler and Quincy Madsen also had a pair of assists for Aberdeen, which picked up its first victory on the young season.
“It was a great team effort tonight,” said Cougars coach Jeremey Backous. “I thought we shared the puck really well all night. It’s easy to get selfish when a lot of goals are being scored, but kids played a team game and it was fun to watch.”
The Cougars, 1-2-1 on the season, host a pair of Sioux Falls teams this weekend at the Odde Ice Center. They play Sioux Falls 1 at 8 tonight, and then face Sioux Falls 2 at 3 p.m. Sunday.
