Ipswich had five different players score at least eight points on the way to a season-opening 67-20 boys’ basketball win over McIntosh during the Sacred Hoops Classic at the Strode Center on Friday afternoon.

Trevor Heinz scored 16 points to pace the Tigers. Tyler Hettich added 14, including four three-point field goals, three coming in the opening half when Ipswich took control.

Blake Rich contributed 14 points, while Jace Konsor and Chet Peterson each finished with eight. Colby Sylte led The Tigers with four assists and four steals.

The victory marked the 200th career coaching win for new Ipswich coach Stew Bohle, coaching in his first boys’ contest after winning 199 games and a pair of state championships with the Warner girls’ program.

“What a special day. I’m just so happy for our kids,” Bohle said. “They played so hard, especially practicing for almost a month without a game. I’m proud of those guys. It was a great effort.”

While he is just getting started in his boys’ coaching career, Bohle is certainly enjoying the experience so far.

“You keep putting groups like this in front of me and I’ll coach until I tip over out there,” Bohle said, “because these guys are fun to coach and fun to be around.”
