REDFIELD – A low-scoring third-quarter proved to be costly for the Aberdeen Christian girls’ basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Knights were within striking distance before a five-point quarter put them in a hole on the way to a 40-28 loss to Stanley County in the Redfield Holiday Classic.

Christian trailed by six points at the half before the Buffaloes built a double-digit lead thanks to a 12-5 third-period surge.

Mattie Duffy led Stanley County with 17 points, including five three-point field goals. She also added five assists. Morgan Hoffman and Kaysen Magee each contributed six points.

Chloe Holt had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights. Bailey Hunstad and Sophia Fogarty each finished with seven points.

Christian is still playing with a depleted lineup.

“I’m really happy with this group. I played pretty much the whole game with five players,” said Knights coach Cristian Martinez. “I still have three regular rotation girls out. Hopefully, I will have all of my roster back by Tuesday’s game.”

Christian will host Groton in another non-conference game Tuesday night at the Civic Arena.
