PIERRE – The Aberdeen Central wrestling programs dropped a pair of duals to Pierre Thursday night in Pierre. The boys fell by a narrow margin, 33-27, while the girls lost 33-11.

“Hats off to Pierre,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “Both of those programs are quality programs, boys side and girls side. We knew it was going to be a tough dual.”

Central’s two victories in the girls dual came via pins from Madyson Gillen at 113 pounds and Katrina Gibson at 154 pounds. Gibson defeated a foe that she recently lost to at the Lee Wolf tourney.

“The wins we did get were quality wins,” Bowden said.

The boys dual, meanwhile, came down to a handful of situations, including a sudden-victory decision early in the competition.

Pierre’s Jacob Mason claimed a 5-3 win over Central’s Will Allen in the first overtime period at 106 pounds.

“That would have given us a few more points,” Bowden said.

The remainder of the night was decided on bonus points, as half of the 10 matches featured extra points. Central was victorious in three of those, as Rayden Zens (126), Bryce Beitelspacher (220), and Jacob Krenz (285) each won by fall.

Ridley Waldo (120), Tate Huff (132), and Mason Schrempp (145) also claimed wins for the Golden Eagles.

Central will split ways on Saturday, as the girls head to Harrisburg for a tournament, while the boys will battle at the Huron Invitational.

“I think we’ve been getting better every week,” Bowden said. “People have been fixing things they need to fix. We get another opportunity (this weekend) to get better.”
