This week’s basketball schedules started changing before the approaching winter storm even came.

While some of this week’s contests were already moved up to Monday because of the impending weather, it turns out some of those games were unable to take place even with the modifications.

Region 1A had four games postponed just a few hours before they were scheduled to begin due to icy roads and poor visibility. As a result, the Roncalli vs. Redfield, and Tiospa Zina vs. Sisseton games at Sisseton, as well as the Waubay-Summit vs. Groton, and Webster vs. Milbank Area games at Milbank have been rescheduled for Saturday. Roncalli and Redfield will play at 1 p.m., followed by Tiospa Zina and Sisseton at 2:30 p.m. Webster at Milbank Area will play at 1 p.m., followed by Waubay-Summit and Groton at 2:30 p.m. Thursday’s scheduled semifinal games were moved to next Monday.

Region 1B had a similar situation as an opening round contest of Waverly-South Shore at Langford Area on Monday was also postponed. That game will likely be moved to Friday. The other games scheduled for tonight involving Aberdeen Christian, Britton-Hecla, Hitchcock-Tulare, Leola-Frederick, Northwestern, Warner and Wilmot, have been postponed to Saturday with the semifinals pushed back to next Monday in Webster.

A pair of games in Region 2B were moved up to this afternoon in Wolsey as James Valley Christian will face Deubrook Area at 3 p.m., followed by Iroquois-Lake Preston against Wolsey-Wessington around 4:30 p.m. Many additional games from other regions were moved up an hour or two as well.

Central postponed its games scheduled for this evening against Sioux Falls Roosevelt to next Monday. The boys will be at Roosevelt, while the girls will host the Rough Riders.

The weather also altered a college basketball contest. The Northern State women are hosting Upper Iowa in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference playoffs. That game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, but will now take place at noon Wednesday at Wachs Arena.

There is a strong likelihood that more changes are on the way. Before heading out to any contest in the next three days, check to make sure it is taking place. Any area weather-related updates will be posted on the SD SportScene Twitter and Facebook accounts and can also be found under the schedule tab on the website.
