Cougar boys fall to Sioux Falls squad

SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Flyers 1 scored in the opening minute and and then continued to build on their lead on the way to a 7-1 boys’ hockey win over the Aberdeen Cougars on Saturday afternoon.

Brock Malwitz ended up with four goals to lead the Flyers, scoring twice in the first period before adding goals in the second and third as well.

Brady Huff scored Aberdeen’s lone goal late in the opening period on an assist from Devon Fischbach.

Colton Townsend recorded 36 saves in goal for Aberdeen.

The Cougars were outshot 43-9 in the contest.

“It was a tough day. We knew Sioux Falls 1 was going to be really good and they proved it,” said Cougars coach Jeremey Backous. “We had some good individual efforts, but that’s not enough to beat a good team like Sioux Falls 1. We finish with Sioux Falls 2 (Sunday), and hope to finish off the regular season with a win.”
