MILLER – Area track and field athletes performed well at the Miller Booster Club Meet on Tuesday.

On the boys’ side, Aberdeen Christian’s Abe Kretchman excelled in a trio of events. Kretchman won the long jump with a leap of 20-feet, 4.50-inches, while also placing second in the triple jump and 200-meter dash. Teammates Andrew Brennan and Jackson Isakson placed second and third in the long jump, respectively.

Christian coach Sam Bjorkman was pleased with how all three performed.

“Abe, I think actually bumped up our school record a little bit with that jump in the long jump, and he was consistently over 20 (feet) today, which is the first time that’s happened,” Bjorkman said. “Jackson got above 19 (feet) for the first time this year, which was good, and then Andrew Brennan bumped up his personal best by about four or five inches today.”

Aberdeen Roncalli’s Jayden Munroe continued his stellar season with a first-place finish in the triple jump, leaping 42-feet, 6.75-inches. Munroe also placed third in the 100-meter dash. Fellow Cavalier Brody Weinmeister placed second in the 300-meter hurdles, while Parker Grieben and Aiden Fisher placed fourth and sixth, respectively in the 110-meter hurdles. The Cavaliers also placed third in the 400-meter relay.

Roncalli coach Brady Lesnar said his athletes competed well, despite the weather conditions.

“For having some cold weather, about 40 degrees colder than what we had two weeks ago when we were in Pierre for our last outdoor meet, I thought we did alright,” Lesnar said. “I thought we competed pretty well in a few different events and the kids had a good meet.”

Lesnar also said he was impressed with how some of the boys improved on his team.

“I thought Brody Weinmeister ran really well in the 300 hurdles. That was really fun to see,” Lesnar said. “Our boys 4×1 and 4×2 ran well. Jayden Munroe had a good meet again.”

In other boys’ results, the Miller Rustlers turned in several solid performances, including first-place finishes in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter run from Alex Schumacher, as well as a first-place finish in the 3,200-meter run from Pierce Baumberger. The Rustlers also had four second-place finishes, including Kellan Hurd in the 400-meter dash, Isaak Hunter in the 110-meter hurdles, Trevor Werdel in the discus, along with a runner-up finish in the 1,600-meter relay.

Warner walked away with five first-place finishes, including two wins apiece from Logan Permann and Hunter Cramer. Permann won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, while Cramer collected wins in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. The Monarchs also captured the 400-meter relay title, while also finishing runner-up in the 800-meter relay.

Groton’s Logan Ringgenberg won the shot put, while teammates Holden Sippel and Caleb Hanten placed third and fourth, respectively. The Tigers also placed first in the 800-meter relay, while adding two runner-up finishes in the 400-meter and 3,200-meter relays.

Northwestern had two runner-up performances, with Lincoln Woodring placing second in the 1,600-meter run and Jude Ortmeier placing second in the shot put. Frederick’s Johnathan Bretsch also finished second in the 800-meter run.

Wolsey-Wessington placed first in a trio of relays, including the 1,600, sprint medley and 3,200.

On the girls’ side, Aberdeen Christian’s Shawnteah La Croix earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Bjorkman was pleased with the team’s standout sprinter.

“With Shawnteah, she ran well. Good, solid times,” Bjorkman said. “Not her best as far as career wise, but good times for this year for sure, and took a good chunk of time off of her 200 versus the indoors.”

For Aberdeen Roncalli, Paige Schmidt placed third in the 800-meter run, while Maddie Huber placed fourth in the triple jump.

The Miller girls earned four first-place finishes, including wins by Tyra Gates in the 100-meter hurdles and Ally Mullaney in the high jump. Gates and Mullaney, along with Morgan Kolda and Jaden Werdel, also captured titles in the 400 and 800-meter relays. Kolda also placed second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash, while Werdel place third in the 100-meter dash. Gracen Werdel placed second in the high jump, while Paige Werdel placed second in the long jump.

Northwestern’s Ella Haven won the triple jump, while Ella Boekelheide placed first in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run.

Groton’s Aspen Johnson placed second in the triple jump and third in the long jump. The Tigers also finished first in the sprint medley relay, while also claiming second-place finishes in the 400 and 800-meter relays.

Wolsey-Wessington’s Mya Boomsma placed first in the long jump, while the Warbirds also finished second in the 3,200-meter relay.

Frederick’s Sofia Losure earned a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, while also finishing third in the high jump.

Overall, Bjorkman said his team was excited to be outdoors for a meet.

“Every single kid on the team was just happy to be outdoors and happy to be at a 400-meter track,” Bjorkman said. “We drove a good bit to get down there and it wasn’t what we picture as a perfect day, but it doesn’t really matter, we were outdoors and that was great.”

Lesnar noted that the meet can help propel the Cavaliers forward down the final stretch of the season.

“Anytime you get on the track, you just make sure we’re intentional and we’re getting the things done that we need to get done,” Lesnar said. “Not every race is gonna be your best race. You’re not gonna set a personal record every time, but sometimes just getting that competition just helps you get a little bit closer to the end goal of peaking at the right time at the end of the season. You’ve just gotta use it when you can.”
