MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli continued its recent surge of strong play by recording a 7-2 dual victory over Milbank Area to wrap up its regular season on Monday afternoon.
“I’m just really proud to see how far the team has come this season,” said Roncalli coach Paige Hermanson. “As quick as the season has begun and ended for us, it’s hard to believe we’ve put in so many matches in the last month.”
The Cavaliers won four of the six singles matches and swept all three doubles against Milbank. Roncalli secured some close victories.
Ezra Feickert scored a 7-5, 6-4 win at flight five singles, Palmer Johnson and Gannon May combined grabbed a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win at flight one doubles, and the doubles team of Jacob Bellefeuille and Jayden Reecy collected a 7-5, 6-2 win at flight three.
Johnson, May and Bellefeuille also won singles matches.
The Bulldogs received victories from Joe Schulte at top flight singles and Charles Whitesitt at flight four singles.
Roncalli, which finished third at a tournament in Pierre last week, will try to keep its momentum going heading into the State A tournament next Monday and Tuesday in Sioux Falls.
“Again, really just happy to see that the team has made improvements in so many areas,” Hermanson said. “It’s been a quick season, but a great season all-in-all. An experience I’m certainly greatful for as a first-year coach.”
