The Aberdeen Swim Club Stingrays got out of the blocks quickly as they got their summer season underway at their annual High Point Swim Meet this past weekend at the Aberdeen Aquatic Center.
ASC coach Neil Romney noted that a good number of the team’s swimmers clocked top times.
“Nineteen of our 91 Stingrays swam 100% best times, 22 more recorded a majority of best times, and 18 were swimming in their first long-course meter meet, a considerably different challenge from swimming in short-course-yards format,” Romney said. “For most of our athletes, this was the first meet of the spring/summer season and our results indicate a strong start to the next six weeks of racing, which will include meets in Huron, Webster, Bismarck, Rapid City, Fargo, and Aberdeen, when we will host the South Dakota State Championships, July 21-23.”
Top-3 high point swimmers from ASC included: Lennon North (third girls 6u), Ginny Peterson (second girls 8u), Logan Smith (first boys 8u), Lula Karst (second girls 11-12), Scout Rosendahl (third girls 11-12), Easton Ketterling (first boys 11-12), and Alexia Hoven (second girls 17-19).
Multiple Stingrays also won individual events during the meet. Those individuals include Emma DeRouchey, Lilly Grebner, Lula Karst, Lydia Kessler, Easton Ketterling, Ginny Peterson, and Logan Smith.
The High Point Meet included 28 teams from three states and featured 500 competitors.
“The just-completed meet is a massive undertaking involving the coordinated efforts of almost 100 ASC swim families as well as many additional volunteers and multiple stakeholders in the local aquatic community,” Romney said.
Of course, the High Point Meet is just the beginning as the Aquatic Center will play host to the state meet next month.
“Like our June meet, the state meet will bring several hundred athletes and their families to town for three days of championship swimming in a superb facility with unrivalled meet management and hospitality,” Romney said. “We encourage anyone interested or new to the sport to come out to the Aberdeen Aquatic Center July 21-23 to enjoy the fast swimming and festive atmosphere.”
