REDFIELD – Castlewood’s State B Legion Baseball Tournament ride came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 loss to Elk Point-Jefferson in an elimination contest.

Elk Point-Jefferson took control of the game early with a 3-run second inning. Evan Hailey had an RBI single, another run scored on a error, and Keaton Gale plated another with a sacrifice fly. That would be all EPJ would need.

The Huskies tacked on bonus runs in the third and sixth innings, easily counteracting Castlewood’s lone fourth-inning run when Xander Sheehan produced a sacrifice fly.

Kegan Tvedt, Lane Tvedt, Booker Schooley and Quincy Thu each collected one hit for Castlewood.

Gale pitched 6.2 innings and struck out 10 batters while allowing four hits, four walks and just the one run.

Schooley got the start on the mound for Castlewood, giving up five runs on four hits while striking out six. Schooley fell victim to defensive miscues, as all but two of the runs were unearned.

Castlewood’s season comes to a close after going 13-11 and making its first state tournament appearance since 2014.
