MITCHELL – The Clark Traders scored three first-inning runs and then rode the pitching of Wes Jones to knock off the Alexandria Angels 3-1 in the opening round of the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Friday night.

The Traders got all the runs they needed when Rhett Florey cracked a two-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the first inning. Clark added another run in the frame and then Jones went to work, giving up just three hits in a complete-game gem.

Jones allowed just a single run, that coming in the bottom of the fifth inning, and that was it. Alexandria did strand runners in scoring position in a pair of innings late in the contest.

Clark now advances to the next round of the tourney where it will face another perennial power the Canova Gang on Tuesday night.
