Central, Groton soccer squads garner attention in initial polls

Both of the Aberdeen Central and Groton soccer squads can be found in the first South Dakota High School Soccer Coaches Association polls of the season.

The Aberdeen Central girls are rated second in Class AA behind defending state champion Harrisburg. The Central boys are fifth in the initial poll. Rapid City Stevens is the top-rated squad.

The Groton girls are rated fifth in Class A. Tea Area holds down the top spot. The Groton boys are receiving votes. Sioux Falls Christian is the top-rated team in that division.

Here is a look at each of the four polls:

Class AA Girls

1, Harrisburg; 2, Aberdeen Central; 3, Sioux Falls Lincoln; 4, Rapid City Central; 5, Pierre, Sioux Falls Jefferson and Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Receiving votes: Brandon Valley, Rapid City Stevens and Yankton.

Class AA Boys

1, Rapid City Stevens; 2, O’Gorman; 3, Sioux Falls Jefferson and Sioux Falls Lincoln; 5, Aberdeen Central.

Class A Girls

1, Tea Area; 2, Sioux Falls Christian; 3, West Central; 4, Dakota Valley; 5, Groton.

Class A Boys

1, Sioux Falls Christian; 2, Tea Area; 3, Vermillion; 4, St. Thomas More; 5, Belle Fourche and James Valley Christian. Receiving votes: Groton, West Central, Dakota Valley, and Freeman Academy.
