BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State exploded for 36 first-half points on the way to a 49-13 victory over Northern State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football opener for both squads Thursday night.

The 11th rated Beavers scored three touchdowns in a five-minute span in the first quarter. After Bemidji jumped in front 14-0, Northern responded when Dewaylon Ingram scored on a 59-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Vespo. However, that momentum was short-lived when the Beavers scored another TD just 46 seconds later.

Ingram also scored Northern’s other touchdown, catching a 7-yard pass from Colton Hackel in the third quarter.

Ingram finished with 187 yards receiving on nine catches.

Charlie Larson led the Northern State defense with a dozen tackles.

The Wolves open their home season by hosting Minnesota Duluth at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.
