WEBSTER – Aberdeen Roncalli claimed a Northeast Conference volleyball victory Thursday night, fending off Webster on the road for a 25-14, 25-15, 25-23 sweep.

The win marks the seventh straight victory for the Cavaliers, who have not lost since a season-opening setback to Northwestern. Six of those seven wins – including Thursday’s – have come in straight-sets fashion.

Still, it was not without a bit of tension, as Roncalli had to rally in the third set to come away with the victory.

“After a slow back-and-forth start in sets one and two, we took off and took control in the second half of both sets,” said Roncalli coach Mandy Smid. “The third set, we started in a hole and continued to trail at 22-20 before rallying back.”

The Cavaliers took that control largely from the service line, where they racked up 11 aces on the night. 

“We had strong serving again tonight,” Smid said, “with more accuracy than we’ve seen in our last few matches.”

Faith Danielson finished with three of those 11 aces. Maddie Huber and McKenna O’Keefe had two aces each and were both a perfect 13-for-13 in service.

Jaiden Feickert, meanwhile, had 11 kills to lead the way offensively. Huber and Ava Hanson had eight kills apiece. Huber also had 15 assists, while Camryn Bain added 27 digs from her back-row spot.

“Camryn controlled our back row again, but Jaidyn Feickert really stepped up offensively and defensively for us tonight,” Smid said. “Maddie Huber also saw more success tonight hitting, as well as setting up hitters with assists.”

The Cavaliers will host Aberdeen Christian Monday in a non-conference contest at the Roncalli Gym.
