Roncalli holds off Langford Area for road victory

LANGFORD – Aberdeen Roncalli fended off an upset-minded Langford Area squad Tuesday night, coming away with a straight-sets non-conference volleyball victory after winning by set scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 27-25. Cavalier head coach Mandy Smid said her team felt in control through most of the night, but was just off on its aim. “We had control, but couldn’t get our swings to fall on the right side of Langford’s end line,” Smid said. Roncalli was able to string a handful of points together to end the opening set, then breezed through the second stanza. “Set two was a different story,” Smid said, “with very clean play that we played to our potential.” The third set, however, bore more resemblance to the opener, as the Lions were able to stay in contention to the very end. “While we had control on our serve receive and digs, our errors piled up and forced us to play out the back and forth match into extra points,” Smid said.
