High school volleyball action is heating up as Class B region tournaments will take place throughout the state. This week teams will look to punch their tickets to the SoDak 16 and eventually the Class B state tournament, which will take place in Rapid City November 16-18.
Here is a look at three regions in the area:
Region 1B at higher seeds
Warner is once again one of the favorites to win the state title in Class B. The two-time defending champions have cruised through their schedule, winning all 34 matches, and extending a winning streak that dates back to last season. The Monarchs have not lost a match since Sept. 24 of last year, winning 53 consecutive matches, and show no signs of slowing down. Warner has several quality wins this season, most notably a pair of wins over the favorite in Class A, Sioux Falls Christian. The Monarchs have only lost three sets all season, and will be tough for any opponent in the postseason.
Northwestern will also certainly be in the running for a state championship as the Wildcats have posted another stellar season. Of the Wildcats seven losses, only one has come against a Class B opponent, a straight set loss to archrival Warner. Despite not having a senior on the roster, Northwestern has the experience to make another deep postseason run.

Hitchcock-Tulare is the third seed and has put together a solid season. The Patriots have won their last four matches, and at one point had a 10-match winning streak during the season. Should they win, the Patriots and Northwestern would meet up in the SoDak 16 qualifying round and the teams have not met this season. The Patriots could pose problems for their opponents moving forward.
Fifth-seeded Aberdeen Christian will travel to Leola to face fourth-seeded Leola-Frederick Area. The Knights and Titans have played twice this season, with Leola-Frederick Area winning the first match, while Aberdeen Christian rebounded with a win late in the season. The winner will most likely face Warner in the next round.

Region 2B at Wolsey and Castlewood
After appearing in its first-ever state volleyball tournament last season, Wolsey-Wessington is once again in the running for another trip to the state tournament. The Warbirds began the season 1-2 before rattling off 20 wins in a row. Wolsey-Wessington also has a pair of losses to Faulkton late in the season, but defeated the Trojans during the 20-game winning streak as well. The Warbirds also have quality wins over Hitchcock-Tulare and Miller twice each, Sioux Falls Lutheran, and Philip, and have the talent to make another deep postseason run.

Castlewood is the second seed and is also looking to make a return trip to the state tournament. The Warriors return several key contributors that have made an impact this season. Three of the Warriors losses have come against Colman-Egan, while four other losses have come against Class A opponents. Castlewood has several experienced players that are ready to make another run at a state tournament berth.

Region 6B at higher seeds
Faulkton is the top seed in Region 6B, having played a strong schedule during the season.
The Trojans have quality wins over Faith, Herreid-Selby Area, Aberdeen Roncalli, and a pair of wins over Wolsey-Wessington. Faulkton is looking to return to the state tournament for the first time since making four consecutive appearances from 2018-2021, and with this squad, it appears the potential is there to do so.

Herreid-Selby Area is the second seed entering the region playoffs and has quietly put together a successful season. The Wolverines have won eight of their last nine matches, with the lone loss coming at the hands of top-seeded Faulkton, as well as a quality win over Faith in that stretch. Herreid-Selby Area is seeking its first appearance in a state tournament since 2017, and with the Wolverines’ size in the front row, they should give teams problems in the postseason.
