GROTON – Anna Fjeldheim of Groton has been selected as the inaugural Northeast Conference Volleyball Player of the Year by the coaches in the NEC.

This is the first year of the award, and one will be handed out for boys’ and girls’ basketball as well. To qualify for the award, players must be unanimous selections to the all-conference team and then one individual is selected from that group.

“Anna has been a key part of our team for several years and has stood out in the conference for the last two seasons,” said Groton coach Chelsea Hanson. “Having her in the running to be a player of the year was such a great honor and achievement for her personally and for our program.”

The senior played in 24 matches this season and helped the Tigers to a 20-5 record and a SoDak 16 appearance. She finished the season with 27 ace serves, 75 set assists, 225 kills (0.168 hitting percentage), and 237 digs.

“Great players make other players great and Anna did that for her team which helped lead us to the highest winning percentage in school history,” Hanson said. “She may not have led the conference in every stat category because we encourage balance, but she is the whole package as a player and very deserving of being named our Conference Player of the Year.”
