Little Wound rallies past Knights for girls’ victory

REDFIELD – Little Wound used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Aberdeen Christian on Saturday.

The Mustangs outscored the Knights 20-12 in the final period to come away with a 48-41 girls’ basketball win at the Redfield Holiday Classic.

“Today they fought for this game,” Knights coach Cristian Martinez said of his squad’s efforts.

Christian took an early 4-0 lead in the contes before Little Wound with a 9-1 run to finish the opening quarter. However, the Knights fought back to tie the game at 11 and 13 before the Mustangs again pulled away for a 21-15 halftime advantage.

Once again, the Knights made a comeback, outscoring the Mustangs 14-7 to take a 29-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, Little Wound used a strong shooting performance – including three three-point field goals – to pull away for the win,

The Mustangs were led by Tahca Zephier with 19 points, while Layla Janis had eight points.

Christian was led by Sophia Fogarty with 13 points, while Chloe Holt had 10 points.

Martinez was pleased with the performances of Fogarty and Holt.

“Sophia Fogarty had a great game today with 13 points, next to Holt with 10,” Martinez said.

The Knights (0-6) are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Wolsey-Wessington.
