YANKTON – The Aberdeen Cougars shook off Friday’s setback to Mitchell with a dominating 5-1 boys’ hockey victory over Yankton on Saturday night.
The Cougars, who scored in every period, outshot the Bucks by a 35-18 margin.
Levi Little, Jaxson Danielson and Michael Weisenburger each scored in the opening period for the Cougars to help set the tone for the contest.
“I thought we had a really good start to the game,” said Aberdeen coach Jeremey Backous. “We played with urgency and moved the puck really well, and were able to generate some nice scoring chances.”
Lance Siefken found the back of the net in the second period for Aberdeen, and Brady Huff capped the scoring with a third-period goal.
Little and Danielson also had assists in the contest.
The Cougars square off against Yankton again this afternoon.
“Yankton has a really good goalie, so it was nice to get a few by him early and help set the tone,” Backous said. “We’re going to need more of the same against him (Sunday).”
