A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Feb. 25-March 2:
Last year on March 2, 2023: The Minnesota Vikings have hired Dalmin Gibson as a special teams assistant. Gibson was born in Rapid City and is a 2010 graduate of Harding County where he was a football, basketball and rodeo standout. He spent last season as an assistant for Southern Illinois and then Michigan State the two seasons before that. He also has coached at Colorado, Wayne State and Dickinson State (where he graduated in 2014 and played linebacker).
10 years ago on March 1, 2014: Aberdeen Central won its first state wrestling team title in program history. The Golden Eagles fielded their first varsity team in the fall of 1963. With SDSU leaving the North Central Conference for Division I next year, this was the last regular-season game between the two rivals for the foreseeable future in a 90-year series that began in 1914. Josh Mueller and Derek Paben lead the Coyotes with 18 each while Marquise Richardson scored 23 for the Jacks.
