Roncalli splits pair of road tennis duals

MITCHELL - Aberdeen Roncalli fell to Mitchell 8-1 before taking down Brookings 7-2 in a tennis triangular on Tuesday. The Cavaliers, who played without top player Cason Hellwig due to an injury, were involved in numerous close matches against Mitchell. Three of the six singles matches were decided in super-tiebreakers. "We had a slow start against Mitchell, but once we got our feet under us, we had competitive matches all up and down the lineup," said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. Roncalli's lone victory against the Kernels came at flight four singles where Landon Zikmund edged his foe 10-6 in a super breaker. "Will Haskell was bumped up to number one singles due to Cason's injury," Coach Haskell said. "Another week or so like that and we should be back to full strength." The Cavaliers won four singles matches against Brookings and swept the doubles competition.
