GROTON – Colby Dunker delivered a one-out single to center to plate the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Groton walked off Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 9-8 in high school baseball action Sunday afternoon.

Groton had taken a 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Nick Morris in the second and Logan Ringgenberg in the third. That’s when W-I-N scored eight unanswered runs to jump in front.

A pair of errors led to a run in the top of the third, and then the visitors had five hits and four walks in a seven-run fourth inning. Lincoln Kroll, Devon Fischbach, Alec Mikkelsen, Dawson Ward and Chays Mansfield each drove in a run to highlight the frame.

Groton responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, two on Jarrett Erdmann’s triple and another on a Brevin Fliehs single, and then tied the game at 8-8 in the sixth on Carter Simon’s RBI single. That set the stage for the bottom of the seventh.
