SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Roncalli used consistent effort to win its fourth tennis dual in the past two days with a 5-4 triumph over St. Thomas More on Friday.
The two sets of Cavaliers split the six singles matches, and Roncalli won two of the three doubles for the final margin of difference.
“Today’s word of the day was consistency. We had great shot variety and did well staying in points,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. “We had fewer errors. We worked hard on focusing on controllables: effort, attitude, strategy, and I think it helped.”
Palmer Johnson, Gannon May, and Landon Zikmund claimed singles wins at flights two, three and four, respectively. Johnson and May teamed up for a win at first flight doubles, and Zikmund combined with Cason Hellwig for a win at second flight in the dual victory.
Roncalli will try to cap off the weekend trip with a fifth straight win when it faces Lennox this morning.
“The three days in Sioux Falls afforded use some good opportunities to do some team building,” Haskell said. “This is a great group of kids and I love spending time with them.”
