REDFIELD – The Redfield Muskrats scored five times in the first inning and eight times in the third on the way to a 16-5 win over Oldham-Ramona-Rutland in high school baseball action on Saturday afternoon.

Redfield racked up eight extra-base hits in the contest, including three doubles from Erik Salmen and two more from Eli Morrissette.

After O-R-R started out the contest with three runs in the top of the first, Redfield answered with five runs in its half of the frame. Leadoff hitter Conner Zens tripled, followed by a single from Kevin Weller, and then back-to-back doubles from Salmen and Morrissette in Redfield’s first four at-bats.

Leading 7-4 going to the bottom of the third, the Muskrats broke the game open with eight runs. Salmen and Morrissette each had RBI doubles in the inning, and Kevin Weller had a pair of run-scoring singles.

Weller finished with four hits and knocked in three. Salmen added three hits and drove in four. Zens and Morrissette each had a pair of hits.

Howard 3, Groton 0

GROTON – Howard scored twice in the sixth inning and once in the seventh to break up a scoreless tie and edge Groton 3-0 on Saturday.

Nolan Mentele had a pair of hits for Howard, including an RBI single in the sixth.

Colby Dunker had a double for Groton, which had runners in scoring position three different times in the contest, but stranded them on the base paths.
