GPL girls, Deuel boys win titles at Dwight Kinney meet

ESTELLINE – The Great Plains Lutheran girls won six events and the Deuel boys won eight to power runs to team championships during the Dwight Kinney meet on Tuesday.

Sophie Kannas won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, while Halle Bauer won the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs to lead GPL. Katherine Prahl topped the field in the 100-meter hurdles, and Abigail Kjenstad won the triple jump.

On the boys’ side, Deuel’s Robert Begalka won the shot put and discus, while Oliver Fieber won the 100, and Gavin Kloos the high jump and both were members of the winning 400-meter and 800-meter relay squads. The Cardinals also received wins from Tyson Hagberg in the 110-meter high hurdles, and Owen Haas in the javelin.

Castlewood had a pair of boys who won two open events. Brody Bass swept the hurdles races and teammate Levi Tvedt won both the long jump and the triple jump.
