VOLGA – Groton used one big inning and a solid pitching performance from Dillon Ablen to record a 5-2 high school baseball win over Howard Wednesday night.

The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning when they pieced together five of their 11 hits.

Karsten Fliehs, Brevin Fliehs and Abeln, each drove in runs in the pivotal frame. That was all that Abeln needed, as he allowed just one earned run, struck out seven and did not walk a batter in going the distance on the mound.

Ablen, Brevin Fliehs and Bradin Althoff each had two hits in the victory. Gavin Englund doubled and Brevin Fliehs tripled for the Tigers.

Sioux Valley had at least one hit in every inning, but the seventh.
