One the most frequently asked questions I receive about the SD SportScene website is whether or not photos taken by John Davis are for sale. Yes, they are.
It does not surprise me that his photos (like the one above) draw the attention of others. He has a skill that is pretty much unmatched in these parts. To put it simply, he’s the best sports photographer I have ever worked with.
While we can all appreciate his finished product, what a lot of people don’t know is John’s willingness to share some photography knowledge with others. In this day and age, there are many moms and dads armed with cameras at sporting events. They often gravitate over to John when they see him.
Some have asked him for advice on how to get a particular shot or angle that they are looking for. John is always more than willing to help out. He is also not afraid to try something new or different.
I have always been amazed at the composition skills that John possesses. He can visualize a photo before he even looks through his lens. Sometimes I am used as a prop, holding a board or a flash or whatever might take more than the two hands he has. He is also willing to get wet, get hot, get cold, whatever it takes. Last week, John nearly got into the pool at the swim meet to get the shots he desired, and boy were they worth it. If you don’t believe me, just check out the photo galleries from the meet.
John’s reputation always manages to precede him. People know the quality they’re going to get when John takes a photo. Perhaps that’s why last month at the state track and field meet, two coaches at two different locations requested a photo from John before he left the facility without even knowing exactly what the image looked like.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and his photos speak volumes. That’s why I wanted him to be a part of SD SportScene from day one. He has posted more than 2,000 photos since that original assignment and there are many, many more to come. These photos are not only great to view, but make ideal gifts for birthdays, Christmas or graduations.
I am happy to announce that in the very near future, ordering his photos will become much easier. There will soon be a link on the home page where you will be able to submit your order.
In the meantime, if you would like to purchase any photo on the website, please send John an email at sdjcdavis@hotmail.com or reach out to me at dave@sdsportscene.com and we will be happy to serve you. Cost is $25 per image plus tax for a digital file (not an actual print).
We hope you are enjoying the site as we attempt to bring you the best local sports coverage that we can. Thank you for being a part of SD SportScene.
