Jorgenson has pair of top 12 finishes at Olympic Trials

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Aberdeen native Gena Jorgenson had some memorable swimming finishes at the U.S. Olympic Trials this past week, but fell short in her quest to qualify for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.

The current University of Nebraska swimmer and former Aberdeen Swim Club member finished 11th overall in the 800-meter freestyle and was 12th in the 1,500-meter freestyle.

Jorgenson started our her competition last Saturday and was 31st in the 400-meter freestyle. She then finished second in her heat in, but did not make the finals in the 1,500 freestyle. She concluded her competition on Friday in the 800-meter freestyle.

In the men’s division, former Aberdeen resident Michael Andrew also competed in three events at the Trials, making the finals in two of them. However, he also failed to qualify for the Summer Games.

Andrew, who won a gold medal as part of a relay squad in the 2021 Olympics, was eighth in the 100-meter breaststroke earlier in the week, and finished fifth in the 50-meter freestyle, and 16th in the 100-meter butterfly on Friday night.
