SIOUX FALLS – It was a tough afternoon for the Aberdeen Smittys on Tuesday.

Sioux Falls East walked off the Smittys 5-4 in the opening game and then blanked the local squad 2-0 in the nightcap.

The Smittys jumped in front in the first game on Casey Vining’s two-run single in the top of the third inning. However, the hosts answered back and took a 3-2 lead in the fifth, thanks in part to a two-run single by Dylan Rippentrop.

Aberdeen regained the lead in the top of the sixth on an error and an RBI hit from Cooper Eisenbeisz. East tied the game score in the bottom half of the frame on a sacrifice fly, setting up the stage for the bottom of the seventh. A bases-loaded error with no outs pushed in the game-winning run.

East then held the Smittys scoreless in the second contest as Sawyer Mindt scattered four hits over seven frames.

Sioux Falls scored the first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning before Kooper Perry added an insurance run with an RBI single in the fourth.

Eisenbeisz had four hits in the first game and added another in the second contest, while Drew Salfrank had a pair in each game. Both players also had doubles on the day.

East pitchers struck out 14 batters in the sweep.

Aberdeen dropped to 21-7 on the season. The Smittys are set to host six straight home games at Fossum Field starting this weekend. They host doubleheaders against Huron on Saturday, Harrisburg Gold on Sunday, and Sioux Falls West on Tuesday.
