MILBANK – Finn Anderson of Aberdeen Roncalli won a one-hole playoff to capture medalist honors at the Milbank Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday.
Anderson, Jeff Mack of Watertown, and Milbank’s Jonathon DeBoer each finished with identical totals of 81 setting up a three-way playoff. Anderson birdied the first hole to win the individual championship. DeBoer finished third.
“Windy day today. Had to test most of the kids out there,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “Really happy for Finn to get his first win of the season. Also, really happy with how Matthew Gerlach played today.”
Roncalli finished second as a team to Watertown, just two strokes off the pace with a 339. Gannon May was 10th with an 85, Gerlach was 11th with an 86, and Lucas Daggett was 12th with an 87.
“It was fun to see the younger players play well in big events for us,” Murdy said.
Groton was third in team points led by a fifth-place finish from Brevin Fliehs and a sixth-place finish from Jace Johnson, both with an 83.
The Aberdeen Central JV squad finished sixth.
After three events in four days to start the season, the Cavaliers take a break for the weekend before competing in three more events next week, starting off with the Dell Rapids Invitational on Monday, followed by the Northeast Conference Tournament Tuesday hosted by Tiospa Zina.
