MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli won four singles matches and swept the doubles en route to a 7-2 tennis victory over Milbank on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cavaliers battled the elements and their opponents to record the win.
“Putting the wind aside, it was a great day for tennis,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell.
Roncalli won a couple of super-tiebreakers during the dual. Josie Mitzel and Gianna Cihak grabbed a 10-5 win in a super at third flight singles, and River Haskell pulled out an 11-9 win in a super at second flight singles.
“Three doubles had to buckle down in a tight tiebreak third set,” Coach Haskell said. “River had a back and forth singles match and then found a way to dig deep and do whatever it took to eke out the win at 11-9 in the third set tiebreaker.”
The coach also noted the performances of Raley Haskell, who won her singles and doubles matches.
“Raley had a great day with a nice doubles win … and very well played match earning her a win in singles.”
Roncalli is off until Tuesday when it heads to Pierre to face the Governors and Rapid City Central.
